Frequently Asked Questions
What is a doula?
A doula is a trained professional who provides non-medical emotional, physical, and informational support to individuals and families during major life transitions—most often pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Unlike a midwife or doctor, a doula does not perform clinical tasks or make medical decisions. Instead, doulas work to enhance your care experience. Grounded in encouragement and compassion, doulas focus on helping you feel informed, empowered, and supported through each stage of the journey.
At Milestone Doulas, we offer full-spectrum support in Corpus Christi and South Texas, including fertility guidance, birth planning, labor support, postpartum recovery, and newborn care. Doula care is about more than holding your hand during labor—it’s about helping you feel confident in your choices and cared for in every transition.
If you’re looking for someone who will walk beside you, support you as you advocate for your personal goals, and offer steady support without judgment— a doula may be one of your most valuable resources.

Will my doula support my childbirth education and birth planning?
A doula’s role in birth education and planning goes far beyond handing you a generic birth plan worksheet. Birth preparations are all about helping you understand your options, clarify your values, and prepare for the physical and emotional realities of birth—so you can feel confident, calm, and in control no matter how your labor unfolds.
At Milestone Doulas, we believe that education is one of the most powerful forms of support—especially during pregnancy and the early postpartum period. These one-on-one sessions are designed to meet you where you are—whether you're preparing for your first birth or looking for a different experience this time around.
Each session is curated to meet your needs—labor options, coping strategies, comfort measures, partner support, hospital protocols, postpartum healing, and newborn care are all common topics to be explored.
This isn’t a one-size-fits-all class—it’s a conversation, a collaboration, and a chance to feel prepared your way.

What does a doula do during labor? Will a Doula support a hospital birth?
A common misconception is that doulas are only for home births or people planning an unmedicated delivery. In reality, most doulas support all kinds of births—medicated or unmedicated, spontaneous or induced, vaginal or surgical. During labor, your doula provides emotional grounding, physical comfort, and informational support. That might mean hands-on support with massage and movement during early labor, helping you breathe through contractions, translating hospital language into understandable options, or just being a calm, reassuring presence when things feel intense or uncertain.
At Milestone Doulas, we support clients birthing in Corpus Christi hospitals, birth centers, and at home. We also virtual support for those outside of the area. Whether you’re planning for low-interventions, an epidural ASAP, scheduling a C-section, envisioning a water-birth or still figuring it all out—doula support isn’t about how you give birth. It’s about feeling empowered, respected, and cared for through the entire experience.

What does a postpartum doula do? IS that like a Nanny or Babysitter?
A postpartum doula is trained to care for the baby, the birthing parent, and the whole family dynamic providing emotional support, feeding guidance, recovery tips, and help with daily tasks—all while empowering the family to find their rhythm. While a nanny or traditional babysitter’s scope is specific to childcare, they may not be trained in postpartum recovery, infant development, or the nuances of the postpartum transition.
If you’re looking for someone to help you rest, recover, bond with your baby, and feel like yourself again—you’re probably looking for an experienced doula. Here, our support always aims to meet the greatest needs of the moment.
Our support sometimes looks like: hands-on newborn care, lactation education and guidance, over-night care so parents can catch up on rest, support with newborn feeding and sleeping routines, discussion and insights for postpartum recovery, processing your birth story, folding laundry, washing bottle and pump parts, and so on!

What is a fertility doula?
A fertility doula is a non-medical support professional who helps you navigate the emotional, physical, and informational side of trying to conceive. Whether you're planning your first pregnancy, coming off hormonal birth control, exploring natural family planning, or undergoing fertility treatments like IUI or IVF—a fertility doula offers education, encouragement, and clarity along the way.
At Milestone Doulas, we offer virtual and in-person fertility support to individuals and couples in Corpus Christi and beyond. Together, we create space to learn about your cycle, understand your options, explore supplements and nutrition, process emotions, and prepare your body and mind for pregnancy.
Fertility support may include:
Cycle tracking and understanding your fertile window
Guidance on natural or holistic conception approaches
Support in weaning off hormonal birth control
Emotional support through timed intercourse, testing, or treatment cycles
Decision-making guidance for IVF, IUI, or family planning timing
You don’t have to walk this road alone—or wait until you’re pregnant to get the support you deserve.

What is a Declutter Doula?
A Declutter Doula blends compassionate, hands-on home organizing with the nurturing, nonjudgmental approach you expect from a traditional doula.
