Your Birth

Experience

Matters

With a Labor Doula (or Birth Coach), you can expect support throughout your pregnancy, through labor, and into your first moments as a new parent. We provide emotional, physical, and informational support tailored to meet your needs through your entire perinatal experience.

Why Choose a Birth Doula?

Birth is a deeply personal experience, and having a knowledgeable, caring presence by your side can make all the difference. Our role is to help you navigate the challenges of labor with confidence, offering reassurance and guidance every step of the way.

Our Approach:

Education that Empowers – Knowledge is a powerful tool. I provide clear, evidence-based resources, insight, and real-talk —not just textbook advice— so you feel confident in the choices you make.

Compassionate Coaching – I meet you where you are, listening with care and guiding you through decisions with patience, respect, and encouragement.

Emotional Support – From pregnancy through postpartum, I offer steady reassurance and a calming presence so you feel grounded and supported — never alone in the process.

Physical Comfort – From massage and positioning to breathwork and hands-on techniques, I provide practical support to ease intensity and help labor flow.

Practical Care – Sometimes it’s the smallest acts — coaching your partner’s support, offering a sip of water, or even helping with simple tasks postpartum — that make the biggest difference.

Your birth experience is important — the choices you make, the support you receive, and the memories you carry forward should all reflect the respect, preparation, and confidence you deserve.

With your birth doula by your side, every decision, every contraction, and every moment is supported by the clarity and encouragement of a grounded presence.

You don’t know…what you don’t know.

Birth is full of unfamiliar terms, hidden choices, and assumptions about what’s “normal.”

Most parents don’t even realize how many options they actually have. These sessions and services help uncover what others often gloss over. For example:

Did you know...

✨ Many common pregnancy symptoms, like pain and nausea, are labeled as normal… but have underlying causes that can be treated.

✨ “Due dates” are just estimates — a healthy pregnancy can last anywhere from 37 to 42+ weeks.

✨ Your provider may not be in the room with you until the very end to “catch” your baby, or you may end up with an on-call doctor you’ve never met before.

✨ You don’t have to give birth lying on your back — in fact, upright positions can make labor more comfortable, efficient, and empowering.

✨ Hospital policies and provider preferences vary widely — and knowing your options ahead of time can help you feel more in control.

✨ Informed consent means you get the final say — you have the right to accept, decline, or delay any intervention, even if it’s “routine.”

✨ Many common procedures — like continuous monitoring or immediate cord clamping — have alternatives you can request if they better align with your values and goals.

✨ Small environmental changes, like dimmed lights, familiar smells, or quiet voices, can have a big impact on comfort, progress, and overall experience.

These are just a few examples — and once you know your options, you can plan for the birth you want while feeling ready to navigate the unexpected.

You don’t have to have all the answers. You just need someone in your corner who understands birth, trusts your instincts, and can help you navigate each moment with clarity and care.

    Meet Your

Birth Doula

A woman with shoulder-length brown hair and a black shirt sitting next to a stack of books about pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting, smiling at the camera against a dark floral-patterned background.

 Hey, I’m Sarah B.

I’m Sarah B, your birth coach and educator.

I’m a curator of calm, wealth of birthy fun-facts, and constant source of encouragement to help you feel confident from pregnancy through postpartum. I bring a mix of practical support, evidence-based knowledge, and gentle reassurance so you can focus on what matters most: your body, your baby, and your experience.

I’ve been exactly where you are: navigating big decisions and facing the unknown, and I have learned that birth never follows a script. Each birth I’ve supported — as well as my own four births — has been distinctly different, and those experiences have taught me to be ready for anything as labor unfolds.

Birth is unpredictable. It can be fast or slow, smooth or challenging, empowering or intense — sometimes it is seemingly all happening at once! I’ve witnessed labor and birth in many forms, and know that what matters most is how you feel throughout the process.

My goal is to provide a steady presence: helping you stay grounded, understand your options, and navigate each moment with confidence. I combine hands-on support, practical strategies, and emotional guidance so you can make the decisions that most align with your needs.

As your doula, you have a partner who trusts in your body, your baby, and the process, and who is fully focused on supporting you every step of the way.

Let's Connect

Are you feeling overwhelmed by labor and birth?

A swirl of information, choices, and opinions can leave you second-guessing yourself. The unknowns of labor — when it will start, how long it will last, how you’ll cope — can weigh heavy. If you’ve had a difficult birth before, those memories may stir up worry about whether history will repeat itself. If this is your first, the sheer number of unknowns may feel overwhelming.

Stories from friends, family, or the internet can make it even harder — one person says “just get the epidural,” another swears by going natural, and online forums are full of conflicting advice. You may find yourself up late Googling — wondering what’s fact, what’s fear, and what’s right for you.

You’re left holding the pressure to “do it right,” while what you truly need is to feel safe, supported, and respected.

We provide support that makes a difference.

  • Grounded Education: Clear, balanced evidence-based information so you can feel prepared without overload.

  • Continuous Labor Support: A steady presence who knows you, your wishes, and the process, walking with you every step of the way.

  • Comfort & Coping Tools: Positioning, touch, breath, and strategies that ease intensity and help labor flow.

  • Reassurance & Judgement Free: A voice of calm and confidence, helping you navigate options, communicate your needs, and supporting you through every choice you make.

As your Doula, I provide emotional, physical, and informational support through every milestone — before, during, and just after your baby arrives. I bring the strategy, tools, and reassurance you need to navigate labor with calm and clarity. Because this isn’t about doing things one “right” way; it’s about helping you feel seen, safe, and supported, no matter how your birth unfolds.

Evidence-Based Benefits

of Doula Support

Expectant families want both comfort and confidence on their birth journey. Doulas provide continuous physical, emotional and informational support throughout labor — and this support is not just comforting, it’s scientifically proven to improve outcomes.

Leading evidence and expert bodies (like WHO and ACOG) agree: women with doula support are more likely to have spontaneous vaginal births, shorter labors, and healthier babies. For example, one Cochrane review of 15,000+ women found continuous support “may improve a number of outcomes for both [mother] and baby” with no adverse outcomes identified. Similarly, ACOG notes that continuous one-to-one support (such as a doula) is “associated with improved outcomes” for women in labor.

Overall, research shows doula care is risk-free and highly effective, and experts say doulas should be viewed as “a valuable, evidence-based member of the birth care team”. Check out EBB’s amazing handout Evidence On: Doulas.

1.Lower Cesarean and intervention rates: Continuous doula support significantly lowers the chance of cesarean delivery and other interventions. Women with doulas are far less likely to need labor augmentation (Pitocin) or assisted delivery (forceps/vacuum). One trial even found adding a doula cut the C-section rate almost in half (from 25% to 13%) compared to having only a partner. (Likewise, epidural and pain-med usage drop when doulas are present.)

2. Shorter, smoother labor: With a doula by your side, labor often progresses faster. Studies consistently report shorter labors under continuous support. Because doulas encourage mobility, position changes, and relaxation techniques, many birthing people find labor works more efficiently.

3. Greater birth satisfaction: Doulas help women feel informed, respected, and empowered. As a result, mothers supported by doulas report higher satisfaction and more positive feelings about their birth. They are less likely to recall negative emotions or trauma from labor. Evidence shows their overall childbirth experience is rated more positively.

4. Better newborn outcomes: Babies benefit when a doula is present too. Infants born to mothers with doula support tend to have higher Apgar scores and fewer complications at birth. In fact, continuous support was linked to fewer babies needing NICU admission. (Importantly, no studies have found any harm to babies from doula support.)

5. Emotional comfort and reduced stress: The constant presence of a caring doula lowers anxiety and fear during labor. Doulas offer reassurance, advocacy, and coping techniques (massage, breathing, etc.), helping you feel safe and confident. This emotional support encourages your body’s natural labor processes to work optimally, which in turn can lead to healthier outcomes for you and baby.

6. Improved breastfeeding and postpartum success: Research also shows doula care benefits the early postpartum period. In one review, low-income mothers with doulas had faster onset of milk production and higher rates of breastfeeding weeks after birth. This can give families a crucial head-start on newborn care and maternal health.

7. Endorsed by experts: International guidelines emphasize that continuous labor companionship is a key part of respectful, high-quality care. WHO’s intrapartum care recommendations and ACOG both highlight that having a support person present improves both maternal and newborn outcomes. In short, evidence shows that doula support is not only kind and empowering, but also medically beneficial.

In summary, a doula’s presence throughout labor brings proven advantages: fewer interventions, lower cesarean rates, shorter labor, healthier babies, and a more positive birth experience. By choosing doula care, you’re adding a caring advocate who is backed by science – helping you feel supported every step of the way while improving outcomes for you and your baby.

Doulas in Action

Birth is unpredictable, but your care team doesn’t have to be.

With a doula by your side, you get practical, real-time guidance. Every birth is unique, and support is curated to meet your needs in the moment. Inviting a doula into your birth space can look like:

  • A continuous presence from your early labor through those first sacred hours postpartum.

  • Hands-on comfort like massage, counter-pressure, warm compresses, cool rags, and breathing techniques.

  • Practical support — positioning, movement, and tools that help labor progress or ease intensity.

  • Creating calm — dimming lights, playing music, using essential oils and other adjustments to your environment to enhance your birth space.

  • Prenatal education so that you can walk into your birth informed and prepared.

  • Real-time guidance — clarifying terms and options, so you can easily navigate every decision, even in the most intense moments.

  • Partner support — offering suggestions, reassurance, and encouragement to your partner so they can feel confident and involved.

  • Encouragement and reassurance throughout your journey because sometimes you just need a gentle reminder that you got this!

  • Advocacy & presence — gently reminding you of your preferences and birth plan, helping you stay in control even if things change.

  • Postpartum support — help with newborn care decisions, lactation and feeding support, and guidance to prioritize your post-birth recovery.

When you invite a doula, you’re not just getting extra hands in the room — you’re gaining a calm anchor and a skilled presence who helps you and your partner feel supported, connected, and seen.

Your Birth Experience

Every family’s birth story is unique, but the heart of doula support is how it feels in the moment. With a continuous presence, compassionate care, and a steady voice beside you, you don’t have to carry it all alone.

Inviting a doula into your birth space can feel like:

✨ Being fully supported and deeply seen — emotionally and physically.

✨ Calm and grounded, even when labor takes unexpected turns.

✨ Empowered to make decisions that honor your body, your values, and your vision.

✨ Relief knowing someone is focused entirely on your needs.

✨ Comforted, cared for, and understood — never left to navigate alone.

It’s the steady presence that slows the pace of the room.

It’s the gentle reassurance when intensity rises.

It’s knowing that your voice, your choices, and your experience truly matter.

It’s the confidence that you are supported every step of the way.

It’s the relief that someone fully trusts you, your baby, and the process.

Every birth is different, and your support should be curated in real time to meet your unique needs. With a doula by your side, you can focus on the most important things — your body, your baby, and the transformative experience of birth.

The Birth Coach Advantage

Having a birth coach is about more than support — this is where preparation meets adaptability, and knowledge meets calm.

A doula’s goal is to help you approach labor with confidence by providing education, reassurance, and strategies to navigate every stage. You’ll have someone by your side who sees the whole picture: your hopes, your fears, and your goals — and who helps you make them a reality, whatever your birth journey looks like.

Frequently Asked Questions

✨ What exactly does a birth doula do?

A birth doula provides emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, labor, and birth. That might look like helping you prepare your birth plan, offering comfort measures during labor, explaining your options, encouraging your partner, and being your steady, calming presence through it all. I’m not a medical provider — I don’t perform exams or make medical decisions — but I do help you feel informed, confident, and supported at every step.

✨ Where do you attend births?

I support births at hospitals, birth centers, and at home in Corpus Christi, Tx and the surrounding areas. No matter the setting, my role is to help you feel informed, respected, and at ease. Virtual support and custom travel-packages are also available for those outside my typical service area.

✨ When do you join me in labor?

I’m on-call for you 24/7 starting two weeks before your due date until your baby is born. Whether you go into spontaneous labor at home, have a scheduled induction, or a planned caesarean-section, we’ll stay in constant communication during the on-call period. You’ll notify me at the onset of labor symptoms, and I’ll join you whenever you’re ready for extra hands-on support. Each labor experience is different, so we will work together to identify what’s best for you in the moment.

✨ Do I need a doula? HOw Does A Doula fit in with the rest of my birth team?

While your pregnancy and birth may include the support of a doctor, midwife, or nurses, a doula brings something unique — continuous, non-medical support focused entirely on you. Your medical team’s priority is your health and life-safety, but they will come and go throughout labor, and their clinical processes and insights can sometimes be a challenge to understand.

As your doula, my scope is very different. Unlike providers, who rotate in and out and focus on clinical tasks, I’m there from start to finish, fully focused on your comfort, emotional well-being, and confidence. This continuity of care can reduce your stress, help you make clearer decisions, and improve your birth experience overall. I also have the opportunity to connect with you personally during your pregnancy, in a way that your providers may not be able to, so I that I know your preferences, your fears, your goals, and how you like to be supported, well before labor begins.

✨ Is investing in a doula really worth it?

We understand that inviting a doula into your birth space is both a personal and financial decision. It’s natural to weigh the cost against everything else you’re planning for your baby’s arrival. The reality is that many families will prioritize spending for their baby showers or nursery, and neglect preparing themselves emotionally and logistically for birth and postpartum. And hiring a doula isn’t just a “nice-to-have” — it’s an evidence-based investment in a better birth.

Research shows that continuous labor support from a doula can shorten labor, reduce the need for interventions, reduce complications and caesarean-sections, and increase satisfaction with the birth experience. And a doula’s support isn’t just for the day your baby is born. It’s for every conversation beforehand that helps you feel informed, the experienced voice of reason when things get overwhelming, gentle guidance through the early postpartum transition, and every small adjustment that makes you more comfortable when things get intense.

✨ What are my options for investing in doula support?

We aim to make investing in doula support as straightforward and flexible as possible. Once you decide to move forward, we’ll send you an electronic contract and invoice. Payments can be made securely online via debit/credit card, bank transfer, or HSA/FSA card, if applicable.

To make things more manageable, we also offer flexible payment plans. After completing an initial deposit to reserve your spot on my calendar, you make break the remaining balance into installments of your choice to be paid in full by the 36th week of pregnancy. If you have a specific arrangement in mind, we’re happy to work with you to find a plan that feels comfortable!

Some insurance plans and health savings accounts may cover or offer reimbursement for prenatal education and doula services. We’re happy to provide a detailed invoice, our EIN and NPI numbers, insurance claim codes, and anything else you may need to submit for possible reimbursement. It is also a great idea to add a ‘doula’ or ‘birth coach’ to your baby-registry, and talk to your friends and family about supporting this important element of your care.

✨ What will our prenatal planning sessions be like?

Prenatal planning sessions are typically around two-hours, and each is tailored to your unique journey, focusing on what matters most to you. Together, we’ll explore your birth preferences, discuss comfort techniques, review hospital or home protocols, and build a flexible plan that empowers you to feel confident and informed.

Sessions often include:

  • Evidence-based education about labor, birth, and postpartum.

  • Personalized strategies for comfort, relaxation, and coping during labor.

  • Guidance for your partner or support team on how to best assist you.

  • Space to ask questions, discuss concerns, and clarify medical terminology.

  • Creation or refinement of a birth plan that reflects your values and goals.

These sessions are interactive, supportive, and practical — designed to leave you feeling prepared, grounded, and ready for whatever your birth journey brings. For more information, check out our Perinatal Education page.
