Surrogacy Doula Support

Surrogacy is complex. Support doesn’t have to be.

As a two-time gestational surrogate and certified doula, I bring something most surrogacy support programs cannot — lived experience from both sides of the journey.

Whether you are a surrogate navigating the realities of carrying for another family, or intended parents preparing to welcome your baby — compassionate, knowledgeable guidance is here from matching through postpartum.

Sound familiar?

Are you…

Considering surrogacy and wishing for a knowledgeable, impartial guide to help you understand the process before committing?

Already matched and wanting support that honors both the surrogate’s and intended parents’ experiences — not just the logistics?

Feeling unsure how to navigate the emotional complexity — the hope, the anxiety, the relationship dynamics — that come with this unique journey?

Overwhelmed by the appointments, medical protocols, legal requirements, and agency coordination — and wishing someone would help connect the dots?

Looking for someone to help facilitate open, honest conversations and keep everyone connected, grounded, and informed — especially when navigating long distance or differing expectations?

Wanting steady, compassionate support that centers your values, decisions, and hopes — from the first conversation through postpartum recovery?

You are in the right place. No one should navigate surrogacy feeling uncertain or alone.

Who this is for

Support for both sides of the journey.

For surrogates

Carrying for someone else is a profound act of generosity.

It is also a deeply personal experience that deserves its own dedicated support. As someone who has been exactly where you are — twice — I understand what the process actually feels like from the inside: the medical appointments, the emotional layers, the relationship dynamics, and the postpartum experience that is often overlooked when the focus shifts to the baby.

Emotional support through every stage — including the hard ones
Help navigating the relationship with intended parents
Birth planning that honors your body, your comfort, and your role
Postpartum recovery support — because your healing matters too
For intended parents

Waiting for your baby is an experience all its own.

Feeling connected to a pregnancy you are not carrying can be difficult. Navigating appointments, updates, and milestones from a distance — emotionally and sometimes geographically — requires its own kind of support. I help intended parents feel genuinely informed, meaningfully involved, and ready to welcome their baby with confidence and joy.

Education about the process so nothing catches you off guard
Support staying connected to the pregnancy and your surrogate
Birth day preparation — knowing your role, your options, your plan
Newborn care preparation and early parenting confidence
What support looks like

Every journey is different. Support is tailored to match.

Support can begin at any stage — from pre-pregnancy planning through the postpartum transition — and is shaped entirely around your unique needs and timeline. Sessions are primarily virtual and designed to flex with the evolving nature of surrogacy.

These services don’t replace your agency, clinic, or legal team — they complement them. Think of a surrogacy doula as the steady connective thread that helps the whole experience feel more human, more supported, and more connected.

You don’t know what you don’t know

Surrogacy can be very different from a typical pregnancy.

Most surrogates and intended parents don’t realize how many layers of support can make the process smoother, clearer, and more connected. These are just a few of the things worth knowing before you are in the middle of it.

Communication expectations often go unspoken.

Surrogates and intended parents often have very different ideas about updates, contact, and involvement — creating a shared plan early prevents stress later.

Surrogacy agreements don’t cover everything.

Contracts outline the big picture, but day-to-day choices — prenatal appointments, birth preferences, postpartum visits — are often left unclarified.

Medical care doesn’t address emotional needs.

Even when clinical care is excellent, providers rarely have time to address the ongoing emotional needs of surrogates or intended parents. That gap is real and significant.

Surrogate postpartum recovery is often overlooked.

When the focus shifts to the baby and intended parents, the surrogate’s physical and emotional recovery can fall through the cracks. It deserves dedicated attention.

Intended parents often don’t know how to be present.

Feeling connected to a pregnancy you are not carrying is genuinely hard. With guidance, intended parents can find meaningful ways to be involved and present throughout.

Birth plans need special consideration in surrogacy.

Balancing the surrogate’s comfort and recovery with the intended parents’ wishes and first moments with their baby requires thoughtful, proactive planning.

Postpartum boundaries need to be discussed early.

Open conversations about visits, updates, and contact after birth protect everyone’s relationships and set the journey up for a positive conclusion.

The unexpected needs a plan too.

When complications or unexpected situations arise, surrogates and intended parents often feel unsure where to turn or how to navigate next-steps conversations together.

You don’t have to have all the answers. You just need someone who understands surrogacy, holds space for everyone involved, and helps you navigate each step thoughtfully.

Meet your surro-doula

Hey, I’m Sarah B.

I’m Sarah Bethel — a two-time surrogate and longtime doula. My experiences as a surrogate and doula have given me a front-row seat to the beauty and complexity of the surrogacy process. I have seen how much support is needed — and how often it is missing — for both surrogates and intended parents.

I created this Surrogacy Doula program because I know firsthand that while contracts and calendars keep the logistics moving, what makes the difference is feeling educated and truly cared for. My role is to bring clarity when things feel overwhelming, and to hold space for the heart of the journey — the people, the emotions, and the relationships at the center of it all.

From the very first “what if we try this?” conversation through postpartum recovery and newborn bonding, I am here as a steady presence and trusted guide. My goal is simple: to make sure no one navigates surrogacy feeling uncertain or alone — and that each milestone is met with care, compassion, and confidence.

Why this is different

Lived experience changes what support looks like.

Surrogate perspective

I know what it feels like to go through monitoring appointments, transfer day, and a pregnancy that belongs to someone else while also being deeply yours. I can meet surrogates where they actually are — not where the textbooks say they should be.

Doula expertise

Years of supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum means I bring structured, evidence-based guidance — not just personal anecdote. Both sides of that experience make the support richer.

Impartial presence

A surrogacy doula holds space for everyone — not just one party. That impartiality is rare and valuable, especially when navigating the relationship dynamics and communication challenges that naturally arise.

Continuity through complexity

Agencies, clinics, and legal teams each handle a piece of the journey. A surrogacy doula is there across all of it — the connective thread that holds the experience together and ensures nothing falls through the gaps.
