Frequently Asked Questions
✨ What exactly does a postpartum doula do?A postpartum doula provides emotional and informational support, as well as hands-on care, for you and your newborn during the early weeks and months after your baby arrives. That might look like helping with diaper changes and bath-time, supporting feeding (whether breast, bottle, or combo), offering tips for infant soothing techniques, tending to your postpartum recovery, guidance for your infant and family routines, or simply making sure you get deep rest while someone trustworthy watches over your baby. We offer calm, evidence-based guidance and hands-on help when everything feels new and overwhelming.
✨ Are you certified?Yes, I am a certified postpartum doula! I received my certification from Childbirth International.
✨ HOw is a doula different from a nanny or babysitter?A postpartum doula is trained to care for the baby, the birthing parent, and the whole family dynamic providing emotional support, feeding guidance, recovery tips, and help with daily tasks — all while empowering the family to find their rhythm. While a nanny or traditional babysitter’s scope is specific to childcare, they may not be trained in postpartum recovery, infant development, or the nuances of the postpartum transition.
If you’re looking for someone to help you rest, recover, bond with your baby, and find your new normal — you’re probably looking for an experienced doula. Here, we always aims to meet the greatest needs of the moment. Sometimes support looks like: hands-on newborn care, lactation education and guidance, over-night care so parents can catch up on rest, support with newborn feeding and sleeping routines, discussion and insights for postpartum recovery, processing your birth story, folding laundry, washing bottle and pump parts, and so on!
✨ Do I really need a postpartum doula?Postpartum is a season that’s often underestimated — it’s more than just “taking care of the baby.” Families are navigating recovery, emotional changes, new routines, and endless questions. While partners, relatives, or friends may want to help, they may not always know how. A postpartum doula brings training, experience, and non-judgmental support, so you don’t have to piece everything together on your own. Our goal is to help your family thrive, not just survive.
✨ Is investing in postpartum support worth it?We understand that inviting a doula into your home and postpartum bubble is both a personal and financial decision. It’s natural to weigh the cost against everything else you’re planning for your baby’s arrival. Many families will prioritize spending for their baby showers and nurseries, yet the raw realities of the postpartum season are often neglected. No matter how beautiful the nursery is or how many adorable onesies you have, the postpartum period is physically, emotionally, and relationally demanding.
Having a postpartum doula means you’re not navigating recovery, sleeplessness, and newborn care alone. It’s the reassurance that what you’re experiencing is normal, guidance that eases overwhelm, and practical care that brings comfort when everything feels intense. Families often share that this support gave them a smoother, more confident start to parenthood.
✨ What are my options for investing in doula support? We aim to make investing in doula support as straightforward and flexible as possible. Once you decide to move forward, we’ll send you an electronic contract and invoice. Payments can be made securely online via debit/credit card, bank transfer, or HSA/FSA card, if applicable. To make things more manageable, we can also offer flexible payment plans for some of our clients; let’s discuss an option that works for you!
Some insurance plans and health savings accounts may cover or offer reimbursement for perinatal education and doula services. We’re happy to provide a copy of my certification, a detailed invoice, our EIN and NPI numbers, insurance claim codes, and anything else you may need to submit for possible reimbursement. It is also a great idea to add a ‘postpartum doula’ to your baby-registry, and talk to your friends and family about supporting this important element of your care.
